Payments
How payments work
Who the seller is, how you can pay, whether your card details are safe and what exactly appears on your statement.
Who is the seller and who just provides the platform
This is the most important sentence in the whole article: the seller of a course is the trainer or company running the academy, not Cohorta.
We provide the software and the technical handling of payments. Your contract is with the seller: they issue the invoice, set the refund terms and are responsible for the course content.
In practice: complaints, refunds and invoices go to the seller. You write to us when something isn't working technically.
How you can pay
Payments are handled by Stripe, and the available methods depend on the academy's settings. Most often these are:
- BLIK, a Polish mobile payment method, usually the fastest
- Przelewy24, a transfer from your bank
- a payment card
- wallets such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, if the seller has enabled them and you have them set up on your device
You see the methods available for a given purchase at the moment of payment.
Are my card details safe
Your card number never reaches our servers. The payment is handled by Stripe, one of the largest payment operators in the world, and Stripe takes the card details directly from you.
Cohorta doesn't store any card details. We see the amount, the currency, the payment status and your email address. We never ask for card details by email, and don't give them to anyone who asks.
What appears on your statement
Your bank statement shows the seller's name, that is the academy's, because the payment goes directly to their Stripe account. If you don't recognise a charge, first check the purchase confirmation in your inbox; the amount and date should match.
One-off payment or subscription
A one-off payment is one purchase and one access, usually with no time limit.
A subscription renews itself monthly, quarterly or yearly until it is cancelled. We don't send a separate reminder before each renewal, so if you don't want another period, write to the seller before the renewal date.
Cancelling isn't a refund. It stops future payments but doesn't return the ones already taken.
Currencies
Prices are often in Polish zloty. If an academy sells a product in several currencies, you choose one in the "Payment currency" field on the purchase page. If you pay in a currency other than your card's, your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a conversion fee. That fee is charged by your bank, not by us, and we can't see how much it is.
Discount codes
You enter a code in the purchase form on the product page, after clicking "Have a discount code?". Do it before you go to payment. Once you have paid, a code can't be applied retrospectively. If you can't see that field, ask the seller.
A code that doesn't work is usually expired, used up or tied to another product. Check with the seller, because they issued it.
When to write to us
- The payment went through but you have no access. Read "I paid but I don't have access" first.
- Two charges for the same purchase.
- The payment page returns a technical error.
For refunds, invoices and course content, write to the seller. Their details are in the terms on the product page or on the payment confirmation.
