How my progress is calculated

Where you see your progress

In three places. On the dashboard, under "Continue learning", there is a bar for each course in progress. Under Learning, in the Your courses section, courses in progress have a progress bar and completed ones are grouped separately. Inside a course there is a lessons completed counter plus the list of modules and lessons, where each item has its own marker.

How we calculate the percentage

The percentage is simply the number of completed lessons divided by the total number of lessons in the course.

Two consequences that surprise people:

All lessons carry the same weight. A two-minute introduction counts exactly the same as an hour-long recording.

If the trainer adds a new lesson to a course you are halfway through, your percentage drops the next time you complete a lesson, and the lesson counter in the course shows the higher total straight away. Nothing has disappeared and you haven't lost anything; the total has simply grown. A course you have already completed stays completed.

When a lesson counts as completed

It depends on the type of lesson.

A text lesson counts when you click "Mark as completed" at the bottom of the lesson.

A video lesson completes itself once you have played about 95 percent of the recording. You can also use the "Mark as completed" button.

A quiz lesson requires passing the quiz with the pass mark set by the trainer. Opening it and leaving isn't enough.

An assignment lesson only counts once the trainer approves your work. Submitting it isn't enough, and work returned for revision doesn't count yet either.

The bar won't move even though I did the lesson

Check in this order:

1. Refresh the page. Progress is saved on the server, but the view can be held in the browser's memory.
2. Did you click "Mark as completed"? For text lessons it is the only way.
3. Did you pass the quiz? A score below the pass mark doesn't complete the lesson. Open the quiz and check your latest score. If the quiz has open questions, the score is still waiting for the trainer to grade them.
4. Has the trainer graded the assignment yet? The status "Submitted (awaiting grading)" doesn't complete the lesson yet.

Will I lose my progress

No. Progress is saved to your account, not to your browser. You can switch computer, phone or browser and come back a month later. Logging out and clearing your history don't remove it either.

The only situation in which a completed lesson disappears from your progress is when the trainer deletes that lesson from the course.

Can the trainer see my progress

Yes. The person running the academy can see who has covered how much and who is stuck, and also when you were last active in the academy. That makes sense: it lets them help you or improve the lesson where most people drop off.

When to write to us

• The lesson is completed and the quiz passed, but the bar hasn't moved after refreshing and logging in again.
• Your percentage dropped and the trainer hasn't added anything.

Include the course name and the specific lesson. Without them checking takes many times longer.
